rek was the subject of a military experiment, which horace was also in, when noardal was in a period of heavy warring. her actual origins are unknown, although there have been numerous clues pointing to the northern island of heittjard. the only memory she ever regained from before the experiment was her name, árekstur [which is heittjardan in origin].
the experiment's main focus was to create a seek-and-destroy pair of specialized assassins; rek would have been the 'seek' element, if it had not been cancelled due to the end of the war. [she avoided being terminated by the actions of horace, who killed the scientists who came to destroy them]. the results of the experiment sped up her healing mechanisms; thusly she does not age, and does not die easily from inflicted wounds. her speed, senses, and tracking ability is also a result of the experiment. for a period of time after their escape, her and horace participated in homicides together, with deadly efficiency. however, rek eventually broke away from the practice when she started to ask why, to realize exactly what they were doing in the eyes of their victims. when horace became aware of this, he turned on her and attempted to take her life; however, due to her extraordinary healing, she survived, and for a long time she was hunting him down.
through her worldly travels in her search for horace, she has come to know several of the other characters. the ones who helped her most were suzy and arron; the latter having helped her in the search. through suzy, she was able to tone down her agression. through arron, she met rosewen, whom after a period of time she grew to despise; when she became aware of the parasite in rosewen and the possibility that it could cause a major plague infection, rek decapitated rosewen. [the parasite in rose's brain/nervous system was able, however, to reunite rose's head and body within a short time.] she is also linked to constance in that throughout the length of her life, she has been involved in the life of each reincarnation of constance in one way or another. she has seen much of the history of noardol and aids constance in keeping true to history; she also manages constance's writings when she [constance] is unable to.
currently, rek is an isolated person, supporting herself with some weapons trade but also in creating weaponry. she does not do this often, usually only when necessary. she avoids people because of the fear of endangering others around her, but also is pessimistic, and views most people as weak-willed.
-personality: rek is at first an aggressive and tempermental person. she is prone to take things the wrong way and solves most disputes by fighting. however, her anger has also led to bouts of depression, and at times she takes it out on herself. most of the time, if she is not pissed off, she is depressed or angsty, and sometimes apathetic.
